TWO-TIME GRAMMY WINNER KATHY MATTEA SIGNS NEW RECORD DEAL WITH NARADA PRODUCTIONS June 11, 2001 -- Two-time Grammy winner Kathy Mattea announced today that she is signing a new record deal with Milwaukee-based Narada Productions, a member of Virgin Records America. In making the move, Mattea, who scored Grammy awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1990 and Best Southern Gospel, Country Gospel or Bluegrass Gospel Album in 1993, said "I have always had eclectic musical tastes, and I've pushed the envelope over the years, experimenting with different influences and instrumentation. I'm excited at the prospect of making music in an environment that can help me expand my musical horizons. " At the same time, the singer/songwriter announced a new agreement for representation by booking agency International Music Network. "I am interested in concentrating more on Performing Arts Centers and listening rooms, and less on the fairs and sheds. I want to work less, but play more quality dates, and IMN knows how to put together these more specialized tours." Holder of four Country Music Association and two Academy of Country Music awards, including three for Female Vocalist of the Year, Mattea signed with Mercury Records in 1983. She has charted more than two dozen Top 40 hits on country radio, including twelve Top 10s and four #1 singles, while releasing eleven albums. Her most recent album, The Innocent Years, won critical acclaim, while a televised Christmas concert presentation, Sounds Of The Season, co-produced by her own Captain Potato Productions, aired on dozens of PBS stations around the country last year. Calling it "a really unique fit," Mattea said "my door into country music was always folk and acoustic-based. Narada is well-respected, and there's a lovely synergy there between what I have been yearning to do, and their philosophy as a company." Wesley Van Linda, President and CEO of Narada comments, “We are thrilled to welcome Kathy Mattea to Narada. She is an incredible talent and we are very excited to be part of her musical journey.” Mattea's manager, Marc Dottore with TBA Entertainment, notes, “Kathy is a significant artist who has grown beyond the narrow confines of her genre, the unique marketing partnership between Narada and it's parent company Virgin, will expose Kathy to a much broader audience than the traditional Nashville system" Regarding the change in booking agencies, "IMN represents the cream of the crop in World, Jazz, Folk and Roots Music. Kathy's passion for music, spirituality and the creative process makes her a perfect fit on the IMN roster". Founded in 1983, Narada Productions has earned a reputation as a home to distinctive, quality music, with a special emphasis on instrumental and world music. Since 1997, it has been part of the Virgin Music Group, operating or distributing a family of labels that includes Back Porch, Real World and Luaka Bop. International Music Network, established fourteen years ago, represents acoustic, world music, and jazz artists ranging from The Buena Vista Social Club, The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, with Wynton Marsalis, Mary Black, Herbie Hancock, Kate Rusby, Dianne Reeves, to Sam Bush, and guitarist John McLaughlin. # # #
