Honored as a peacemaker and virtuoso, Omar Faruk Tekbilek is now one of the most sought-after musicians of various traditional world music instruments. He has appeared with jazz greats Don Cherry, Karl Berger, and has contributed to numerous film and television scores, and many world music and sacred albums.

Born to Turkish and Egyptian parents and currently residing in the U.S., Tekbilek - a multi-instrumentalist par excellence - symbolizes the Mediterranean's diversity-in-unity. He is a citizen of the world and ALIF is proof positive of the worldly nature of his musical talents.

Alif is the first letter of the Arabic alphabet, and it also signifies the first letter for Allah. The seventh song and title track is a Sufi masterpiece of devotional love in all its forms - divine love, romantic love, and love of life. This is the theme running through the album's 12 songs. More than any art form, this music supercedes social differences by showing the similarities throughout humanity.
