Celebrated musical innovator, David Sylvian,
presents APPROACHING SILENCE - three highly evocative and beautifully
crafted electronic pieces that will both soothe and challenge.
Originally devised as soundtracks for art installations, the album
features music mostly written and performed by Sylvian himself, with
contributions by Robert Fripp and percussionist Frank Perry.
Two of the tracks, The Beekeepers Apprentice (co-written by Frank Perry) and Epiphany, have appeared before as EMBER GLANCE - a limited edition package released only in the U.K. in 1991. They accompanied an installation in Tokyo of David Sylvian and visual artist Russell Mills, one of Sylvian's long-term collaborators who designed the sleeve for his recent album DEAD BEES ON A CAKE. The third and final piece on the album is the gorgeously textured title track. The 38-minute epic put together by Sylvian and Robert Fripp was first heard in 1994 and again in Tokyo as part of an installation of sound and images called Redemption. This incredible recording from former lyricist, composer and vocalist of the group Japan is required listening for fans of Brian Enos ambient works. Digitally re-mastered from the U.K. release. |
