OVER THE RHINE
Good Dog Bad Dog
48787 Back Porch
Getting their start just a stone’s throw away from the Ohio River, Over the Rhine has found much success as an underground phenomenon. Over the Rhine’s music is dreamy, intensively lyrical and unmistakably their own. Songwriters Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler voice their admiration for Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Neil Young, Chrissy Hynde, Lucinda Williams and Jane Siberry, but the band’s personality seems to owe as much or more to literary influences such as Annie Dillard, Wendell Berry and Carson McCullers.

In the last ten years the band has released seven full-length albums and performed alongside a host of notable peers and mentors including Cowboy Junkies, Adrian Belew, Emmylou Harris and Bob Dylan among others. Their wide fanbase includes Sarah McLachlan, and emerging acts such as Sixpence None The Richer have cited Over the Rhine as an important influence.

The band plans another tour with the Cowboy Junkies, where they will also perform as members of the Junkies. GOOD DOG BAD DOG is the definitive Over the Rhine album to date and strongly signals the continuation of a band’s story that is undoubtedly a long way from over.

GOOD DOG BAD DOG, a collection of Home Recordings, has never been available through mainstream distribution. This newly packaged and re-mastered version also contains a new track that was not available on the original.

We may remain primarily an underground phenomenon. Maybe that’s the beauty of Over the Rhine. Maybe we’re an independent film, a handwritten diary, a secret love.
    -Karin Bergquist
