Artie Traum is a legend-in-the-making. Starting out as part of the cutting-edge folk and blues revival in New York’s Greenwich Village in the ‘60s, Traum learned from the guitar styles of Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Skip James, Big Bill Broonzy and explored jazz styles of Charlie Byrd, Wes Montgomery, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. With his brother, Traum formed the Happy and Artie Traum Band, receiving critical worldwide acclaim and influencing an entire generation of guitarists and singer/songwriters.

Throughout the last three decades, Traum has kept the traditions of the ‘60s folk rock movement alive by creating brilliant melodies expressed through guitar wizardry. THE LAST ROMANTIC captures the spirit and senses of time, tradition, and simply powerful music.

~

In this new century, surrounded by five elegant guitars made from Indian rosewood and Hawaiian koa and swirling maple and warm walnut, I can feel decades of musical influences circling around me. I welcome them all on this album: country blues, Brazilian grooves, fingerstyle experiments, jazzy chords, simple folk melodies, swing and traditional Appalachian modes. These are the ideas that came to visit and stay on THE LAST ROMANTIC.

Some of us have dreams that are too big for the box. In a restless world, we dream of romance. Of traditions. Of beauty. Guitarists express their dreams through chords, melodies, songs. Sometimes I feel like one of the last romantics, but I know there are thousands, maybe millions of us out there, waiting to emerge.
