Out On My Own

Sheila Chandra is one of the most recognized, best-selling world music artists and an early pioneer of the British Indipop music scene.  OUT ON MY OWN was Chandra's first solo album and showcases the Indian influenced pop/rock direction she developed with the band, Moonsoon.  Tablas, keyboards, guitar and sitars provide the backing for her evocative vocals and point the way forward to her experiments with voice and sound.

OUT ON MY OWN is the third of Chandra's five innovative Indipop label recordings proudly re-issued by Narada World.

"On OUT ON MY OWN, I developed the fusion of Western and Asian sounds and forms further, but I also began to use my voice as an instrument, woven and layered on tracks such as Prema, Shanti, Dharma, Satya and From A Whisper...To A Scream. Even at this stage of my musical development, the idea of dynamic, multi-tracked spoken percussion intrigued me, and I began to study it through absorption, as I did with all my vocal techniques...My intention, by experimenting on my solo albums was to deal directly with people's reactions to my musical growth; to fly in the face of the fear..."
