SIETE,
or seven - the new album by world music duo Willie and Lobo - marks
their debut on Narada. For Willie and Lobo, seven has significant
meaning - SIETE is their seventh album; there are seven notes in a
scale; and it happens to be Lobo's lucky number. A mystical number
some would say.
Vista Villa is where SIETE all
began. Willie and Lobo recorded their new album at this very
special location, overlooking La Cruz near Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico. Long-time residents of the area, Willie and Lobo draw
inspiration from its incredible surf.
Listen for the energy of Vista Villa on
SIETE - whirling violins, ripping guitar and driving rhythms create a
carnival of Gypsy music flavored with the sounds of Cuba, the Caribbean
and the western shores of Mexico.
"Recording what sounds and feels
good to us is the concept of SIETE. Lobo and I feel it is
important to record in an environment which is conducive to
creativity. So I decided to join Lobo in Mexico with the latest
portable hard-drive, multi-track recording unit, good microphones and
some surfboards. We recorded in our little studio, Vista Bahia
(Bay View), on a hillside overlooking the Bahia de Banderas in
the little fishing village just outside of Puerto Vallarta.
Lending to the mystical aspect of SIETE - the humpback whales were
wintering within view. Surfing in the morning, recording in the
afternoon and surfing at sunset was the schedule. SIETE is a
reflection of the good times we had during this project. We hope
you enjoy SIETE as much as we enjoyed recording it!"
