Originally released in 1994 on Sony Classical, THE LAMA’S CHANTS became a legendary milestone of sacred chant recording, achieving gold status in many countries. It was the first collaboration between the Lama — who was bestowed the title Ouzme, Master of Music, in his early days of monastic training in Bhutan — and the blind French pianist Jean-Philippe Rykiel. This tenth anniversary edition features a re-mastered version of the classic original album, accompanied by a bonus CD of Tibetan Buddhist chants recorded at live performances spanning several years, including some mantras heard on Lama Gyurme’s RAIN OF BLESSINGS — also a collaboration with Rykiel — which was released on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label in 2000. |
